TALENT MISSION STATEMENT:
Dr. Doireann O’Leary MB BCh BAO MICGP is a GP in Cork City. Dr. O’Leary graduated with an Honours medical degree from University College Cork in 2011. She is currently on maternity leave with her two children. She practices as a GP with a special interest in Women’s Health; she is registered Cervical Check smear taker and a LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraception) provider.
Dr. O’Leary shares free educational content online via her social media channels and podcast. Due to over a decade of experience working as a doctor she shares and educates on wide ranging topics like lifestyle medicine eg. how morning sunlight can improve your sleep, why walking reduces your cancer risk and how practicing gratitude is scientifically proven to help you live longer.
Dr. Doireann’s online community is mostly women so naturally she shares up-to-date evidence based informative content on the science of beauty products, treatments and procedures. Eg. what really works for post partum hair loss, why tanning injections should be avoided, the benefits and complications of botox and fillers and why should need to wear UV protecting gloves when attending for your manicure. Dermatology features a lot too with informative content on over-the-counter and prescription treatments and procedures for common skin conditions such as acne, rosacea and post partum pigmentation.
Due to her own experience with stage 1B cervical cancer in 2019, Dr. O’Leary posts regular reminders on the importance of attending for cervical screening as well as up-to-date information on women’s health conditions like endometriosis, PCOS, contraception and menstrual health.
Dr. Doireann contributes to The Today Show on RTE television and to radio shows such as The Last Word with Matt Cooper and The Brendan O’Connor Show on RTE Radio. Dr. Doireann also contributes to panel discussions on women’s health, the most recent being the Women in Medicine in Ireland conference.
Charity work is important to Dr. O’Leary. She has worked with Irish Pregnancy Loss charity Feileacain by making a donation to them from sales of her supplement company. In 2023, Dr. Doireann hosted a podcast series with The Irish Society of Gynaecological Oncology to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers. This work is particularly important to her due to her personal history of cervical cancer.
As a part of her commitment to lifelong learning Dr. Doireann is currently enrolled in two certificate courses with The Irish College of General Practitioners; Certificates in Community Gynaecology and Dermatology.
Dr. O’Leary is a skincare ambassador for French skincare brand Avene; her role is primarily raising awareness of importance of all year round sun protection to reduce risk of melanoma skin cancer.
